Fly Without Passport Or Boarding Pass!

The days of rifling through travel documents for passports and boarding passes could soon become a distant memory.

Recent advancements in digital identity technology are paving the way for a seamless and highly secure travel experience from the outset to the journey’s end.

IATA has taken a significant leap in this direction, having successfully conducted trials of a fully integrated digital identity travel experience within the framework of its OneID initiative.

While there remains a need to harmonize technology and policy, this marks the commencement of a future where the traditional requirements of passports and boarding passes may no longer be necessary.

IATA recently embarked on a series of trials, collaborating with industry partners to establish a comprehensive digital identity travel experience.

The roster of partners involved in the OneID initiative reads like a who’s who, including Accenture, Amadeus, AWS, British Airways, Branchspace, IDnow, Turkish Airlines, Trip.com, SICPA, and Verchaska.

This collaborative endeavor is a testament to the potential transformation of the travel experience through digital innovation.

The inaugural full-scale OneID trial showcased a journey with British Airways from London Heathrow to Rome Fiumicino.

This contactless trip emphasized the numerous benefits for passengers, hinting at the possibilities that digital identity and biometric technology could offer.

Nick Careen, IATA’s Senior Vice President for Operations “Our vision for future travel is fully digital and secured with biometric identification.

While the technology exists to do this at each stage of a journey, linking these steps together has proven challenging. We showed that it is possible. This will open up a world of possibilities for simpler journeys in the future.”
